2013 is looking like an exciting year for the Van der Vlist Group. One of the significant developments that we are proud to announce is a substantial investment in our Van der Vlist Russia operation.
Van der Vlist Russia has always been part of the Van der Vlist Group on a joint ownership basis, however, at the end of 2012, the decision was made by Dirk and Nico Van der Vlist to invest and secure full ownership of the venture to ensure the long term stability of the St Petersburg operation.
The Russian market is an area of renewed growth and St Petersburg provides a gateway to this huge Federation that has an ever increasing requirement for the transport of Heavy mobile equipment and out of gauge cargo.
Dirk Van der Vlist states that “The Van der Vlist facility in St Petersburg is strategically placed to offer a multimodal solution for the delivery of cargo into the Russian Federation. Our Russian office also has a 23.500 square metre storage facility, wash bay and workshops and sits on the rail network right next to the docks, which is essential for serving this vast country.”
Our Russian colleagues are still firmly at the forefront of the Van der Vlist set up in St Petersburg, which is essential due to the language barriers and cultural differences. This offers a real advantage when working the authorities, securing permits, dealing with customs formalities and ensuring the smooth running of any deliveries into Russia.
The next stage is to increase the presence of Van der Vlist Trucks in the area. Because of the reliance on the rail network, the requirement is fairly minimal, but, it would be beneficial operationally to place a number of vehicles for the local work around the western edge of Russia.
Dirk continues “Russia has been becoming more and more important for us over the last few years not only because of the work within Russia but also because of exports from other countries where we have a presence such as Spain and the UK. We see Russia as an area of opportunity for Van der Vlist in particular due to our expertise in heavy mobile equipment as this is an important import for the Russian mining industry.”
