Mobile construction equipment is a reasonably regular transport for Van der Vlist, however recently they were asked to move a mobile vehicle that isn’t a regular sight, particularly over-ground!
Having been shipped all the way from Melbourne, Australia, Van der Vlist collected 2 Caterpillar R2900 machines in Antwerp to take to Terneuzen where they were shipped across to Pitea in Sweden. These machines are used underground, and are designed to be compact enough for working in the tight spaces for underground mining and tunnelling.
The machines measured 11.75m in length, 3.32m in width, as they are built for work underground they are only 3m high, but weigh in at 57,000KG. The rare Caterpillar vehicles were met in Antwerp by 3 axle Van der Vlist trucks, to be loaded on their 5 axle semi low trailers, which took them comfortably from port to port, departing for their destination in Sweden. Where after their journey half way around the world, they will get to work helping to look for things such as silver, lead and zinc.
