Oldtimer celebrates a long relationship

Van der Vlist Transport group recently helped Hans van Driel celebrate their 60th anniversary as the Dutch import and distribution company for Atlas excavators. The Van der Vlist ‚Oldtimer’ with low loader trailer was driven to the Hans van Driel head offices in Tiel for the celebrations during November.

The two companies have a long standing relationship dating back to the 1960s when Van der Vlist bought stone cranes from Hans van Driel. As the relationship developed, Van der Vlist were then offered the opportunity to start transporting the Atlas excavators, however, there was a slight problem, Van der Vlist did not own any trailers capable of moving this type of equipment! A Mr Nooteboom at Hans van Driel introduced Jaap Van der Vlist to his brother of Nooteboom trailers, and there the transition into Special and Heavy transport began.

Van der Vlist purchased their first low loader with a payload of 14 tons in 1964 and started transporting Atlas construction equipment initially throughout the Netherlands and then from the Atlas manufacturing sites around the Bremen area. With the Atlas equipment being orange, Van der Vlist also adopted the colour resulting in the well known orange trucks that Van der Vlist are famous for to this date!

The relationship between the two companies still flourishes today with Hans van Driel as important a client as they were back in the 1960s. It could even be said that the initial meeting between Jaap Van der Vlist and Mr Nooteboom was a pivotal point in the history of Van der Vlist.
