A recent transport organised by Van der Vlist UK is a perfect example of the flexibility of the Van der Vlist Group’s storage capability. The movement was a straightforward road transport of one reel of wire rope sat in a cradle from the UK to Rotterdam port for onward transport via a deep sea vessel. The cargo was only slightly out of gauge measuring 2.90metres long x 2.70 wide and 2.80 high. At a weight of just over 33 ton, a 5 axle semi low trailer was utilised to move the reel on a door to door basis.
Up until the day of the transport, all was in order, however, 2 hours before the truck was due to be loaded, the team at Van der Vlist Uk were advised that the vessel booked for the onward transport was not going to be in dock for a further 2 weeks. With the client ready to cancel the order, the planning team at Van der Vlist UK moved into action to look for a suitable resolution that ensured the transport went ahead and also minimised costs to the client.
The solution; a simple piece of teamwork by a variety of Van der Vlist business units. A small area of storage space was secured at the Van der Vlist terminal in Moerdijk, this gave the client the confidence that the truck could be loaded to catch the ferry over to Holland where the reel could then be handled and kept safely for a short period until the deep sea vessel was available. With Moerdijk being in such close vicinity to Rotterdams main deep sea ports, it made it very easy for Van der Vlist UK to mobilise a truck and trailer to collect the reel and deliver to the vessel.
