Every year the Van der Vlist Technical Services facility in Belgium receives over 1000 ocean containers with a variety of mini excavators, skid steer loaders and other compact equipment. In total that amounts to around 4000 mobile units with cold heavy diesel engines that need to be started and driven out of the container.
As can be seen from the first photo, this creates a lot of exhaust fumes that linger within the container for some time. This was a problem that needed addressing to both improve working conditions for Van der Vlist employees as well as to reduce CO2 emissions. After some investigation by the Van der Vlist team, two exhaust filters were sourced to solve the problem.
These filters with active carbon can take temperatures up to 200 degrees centigrade and reduce both the co2 emissions and the smell. As you can see from the other photos, these small devices really make a difference and at such a minimal cost are a very important improvement to this process.
