Van der Vlist recently aided in a preservation job for one of their clients, which involved only a very short transportation, but plenty of thought and co-ordination.
In storage at Van der Vlist’s terminal at Moerdijk was a Meiden generator, which will be used in a power plant due to be completed in Peru. In the meantime however, the 85 ton machine needs regular preservation to keep it in top condition. This involves unpacking and repacking the machine either side of the preservation job.
With rain hovering over the port, the decision was made to conduct the preservation in one of the warehouses. The technical specialists from the client, assisted by Van der Vlist enlisted the help of the special ‘four point lifting system’ supplied by Van der Vlist Projecten.
In order to move the generator, a 10 axle modular trailer was used because of the sheer weight which had to be lifted. The 4 point lifting system was then used to unload the trailer, and unpack the generator, before an inspection and the preservation job could take place. Upon completion, the generator was duly re-packed and returned to storage, where it will remain ready for shipment as soon as it is required.
The different services and equipment used by Van der Vlist means tasks requiring the co-ordination of many different things such as this one, can be carried out in a very efficient manner, with the utmost expertise.
