Van der Vlist have recently completed the task of moving a Komatsu WA800 from Norway down to Romania.
Due to the size of the machine (around 4m wide, 5,2m high and 14m long), and distance it had to travel, a multimodal solution was required. Therefore the 102 ton wheel loader had to be moved by ferry to the Netherlands, and moved onto a barge to one of their Technical Services facilities in Groot-Ammers.
Once in Groot-Ammers, Van der Vlist’s mechanics set about dismantling the machine in their heavy lift workshop. They worked it down into 14 sections, to reduce the size so the wheeled loader was then able to be loaded efficiently and transported by road down to Romania, on semi low trailers, and tilt trailers for the smaller parts of the machine, with a convoy of 4 trucks in total.
Upon arrival after such a long journey, through 6 countries, the machine was then re-assembled on site to continue it’s work, in a copper mine in western Romania, at the other end of the continent.
