The UK is also a market that relies on multimodal solutions. All UK imports and exports that are handled by Van der Vlist UK must use one of the many ports available. In most cases, a Ro-Ro or drive on / drive off solution is used.
Van der Vlist UK moved two of these large Generators weighing in at 60 ton each. At 12.8 metres in length, 2.46 metres wide and 3.80 metres high these were collected from South Yorkshire in the UK using 2 + 4 axle modular low loaders where they were taken door to door via Immingham to our storage facility at Van der Vlist Terminal Moerdijk in the Netherlands. On arrival, each Generator was then transhipped onto Van der Vlist MAFIs and placed in the warehouse for a short period of time until the unloading site was ready to receive them.
They were then loaded back onto Van der Vlist Poland trucks for the final leg of the journey across Europe to Estonia. In addition, there were also 8 other smaller cases of ancillary cargo that were moved using a combination of flat and semi-trailers to complete the project.
This is the type of movement that allows the Van der Vlist team to demonstrate many of the company’s strengths. The project involved route surveys, permits, escorts, a multimodal transport solution, lifting and transhipment, storage and also customs documentation. By the end of the project Van der Vlist UK had used experience from 5 of the group offices across Europe.
