Van der Vlist Technical Services (VTS) has been investing heavily on in house training both for existing employees and new young talent.
May 2012 saw the graduation of a group of 13 mechanics from VTS. In partnership with a renowned technical training institute, VTS developed a 6 month evening course covering hydraulics and pneumatics that is given in house at the VTS facility at Groot-Ammers, NL.
Wilbert van Koert, MD says “the course is a mixture of theory and practical on the job training. VTS has many time-served technicians with specialist knowledge and expertise who trained the 13 mechanics. We are now in our third year of this training course and find that it allows us to teach skills that are very specific to the specialist industries that we serve. This latest group took their exams in April and all passed with flying colours ensuring that we continue to provide the high quality service we are known for.”
In addition to the training of existing employees, VTS is also offers a training package specifically designed for young students and school leavers. The 2 to 3 year professional training course is for those interested in a career in vehicle mechanics or mechanical engineering. The students work an average of 4 days per week in the workshops completing practical tests and tasks with the remaining time devoted to theoretical education. VTS are finding that the course is both creating opportunities for young people while at the same time ensuring VTS are able to continue to employ the high standard of technician required.
