On July 1, Van der Vlist and Stedin signed a cooperation agreement under which we will now manage the entire logistics process for power transformers. From planning and route surveys to transportation, installation, removal, and coordination of dismantling and assembly activities.
This partnership aligns perfectly with our ambition to fully support our clients as a supply chain partner. The first project under the agreement has already been successfully carried out. From our storage facility in Moerdijk, we transported and installed two 70-ton power transformers in Leerdam. The new transformers are currently being assembled under our coordination, and at a later stage, the two existing power transformers will be removed from the high-voltage substation.
For this project, we take care of the entire logistics process. Based on extensive route and site surveys, we developed an integrated plan that combined logistics, transportation, safety, and scheduling. In our coordinating role, we managed all involved parties and supervised the execution from start to finish. In complex projects like this, effective communication between all disciplines is essential to ensure a safe and efficient operation.
Transporting and installing power transformers requires specialized expertise and meticulous preparation. The first step was loading the transformers at our terminal in Moerdijk. Due to height restrictions at two railway crossings and limited space at the unloading site, the transformers were transferred onto a lower, more compact trailer before passing through the railway crossings, enabling access to the destination location.
To safely position the transformers at their final location, we combined several transportation methods. After unloading, one of the transformers was moved into the transformer bay using a specialized skidding system. Thanks to thorough preparation and close cooperation with all parties involved, the operation was completed according to plan.
The partnership with Stedin is about more than transportation alone. By bringing planning, route surveys, execution, and coordination together under a single partner, we create an efficient approach that makes complex projects manageable and predictable.
"Open communication and the willingness and enthusiasm to make a project succeed are what make this collaboration successful." - Lennard van Holten, Stedin Account Manager at Van der Vlist
We look back on this joint project with great pride. The successful execution in Leerdam provides a strong foundation for our continued collaboration. Together, we have The Power to Care to take care of power.
