Expanding our Iron Road to Sweden
This month, we successfully used the Trelleborg–Eskilstuna rail connection for the first time. This marks an important expansion of our Iron Road network and further strengthens our ability to offer efficient, sustainable intermodal transport solutions across Europe.
The first shipment on this new corridor was a Terex Genie S65 destined for Knivsta, Sweden. The machine was transported using our patented XL bolster solution, designed for oversized and heavy cargo. The XL bolster can accommodate loads of up to 12.19 metres in length, 2.99 metres in width and approximately 2.95 metres in height, with a payload capacity of up to 28 tonnes.
The transport started in Umbertide, Italy, where the machine was loaded and moved to Verona. At the Verona terminal, the S65 was transferred onto the XL bolster and professionally secured for its onward journey.
From Verona, the XL bolster travelled by rail to Rostock, Germany. This section is part of a corridor we have successfully used on many occasions. In Rostock, the unit was transhipped and shipped to Trelleborg, Sweden by sea. From there, it continued on the new Trelleborg–Eskilstuna rail connection, before the final road leg to Knivsta.
Only the first and last miles were transported by road. The majority of the journey was completed by rail and sea, demonstrating the strength of our intermodal approach. The total transit time was completed within the expected six days.
This shipment is an excellent example of a trimodal transport solution in practice, combining road, rail and sea transport in one seamless operation. With the addition of the Trelleborg–Eskilstuna connection to our Iron Road network, we continue to expand the range of sustainable and efficient transport options available to our customers.
